Founder of The Healthy Mummy Rhian Allen now at the helm of a multimillion-dollar global empire

Amanda R. Pratt

A mother who launched a women’s fitness plan from her kitchen after becoming disillusioned with the corporate rat race is now the CEO of a multimillion-dollar global empire.

In 2010, Rhian Allen was a high-flying sales director at a Sydney media outlet pregnant with her first child.

But despite her successful career and generous pay packet, she felt unfulfilled.

Gaining weight during pregnancy inspired Ms Allen to quit her steady job and start The Healthy Mummy, an online diet and fitness program designed to help new mothers shed kilos with easy exercises and affordable recipes.

Ten years and two children later she is at the helm of a company that was valued at $22million in 2018 and now reaches 1.5million women worldwide, helping countless numbers achieve their dream physique every day.

Ms Allen – who currently employs 150 staff – told Daily Mail Australia she is excited to see what she can achieve over the next decade.

‘We can’t wait to keep adapting and changing to support mums over the next 10 years when we are bound to see even more changes and evolutions in the health and fitness space,’ she said.

Starting with just a few hundred mums who followed the program’s recipes and exercise routines on Facebook, her community now has over 1.5million members who are overhauling their physical and mental health together.

An app that launched in 2014 now boasts 7,000 five-star reviews from some of the hundreds of thousands of women who use it.

Social media photos of their transformations are testament to the results of following Ms Allen’s program, which she said has helped women shed a collective 3million kilos over the past 10 years.

Best-selling products include The Healthy Mummy Smoothies and the brand’s 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

There’s also dozens of books, supplements, mouth sprays that kill sugar cravings and snack bars designed for children and pregnant women.

On the back of its rapid expansion across Australia, The Healthy Mummy launched in the UK in 2018 and in the US in 2019.

But it hasn’t been without challenges and missteps, which Ms Allen believes are ‘inevitable’ in any business.

‘The key thing for me is that when mistakes happen I look at why it happened, how we can ensure it doesn’t happen again,’ she said.

‘And then move on so I can keep leading the business and services we offer forward.’

Reviews on the brand’s website reveal a community of mothers united by a common goal – to lose their baby weight – who are overflowing with praise for what Ms Allen has created.

‘I have been a platinum customer of Healthy Mummy for less than a month but I am already very impressed,’ an American customer called Ashlea wrote.

‘Not only do you offer meal replacement shakes, which got me interested to begin with, but you offer at home exercises via the app too which is ground breaking for mums who are unable to go to gyms or leave home after surgery etc.

‘I’m a massive fan of the post-natal workouts. I feel like my body can move without half as much pain. Thank you.’

Others gushed about how it has helped them to change their relationship with food for the first time in their lives.

‘I cannot rate Healthy Mummy enough,’ an Australian woman wrote.

‘I’ve always been one to snack and eat junk every single day, I craved sugar constantly. Since joining and receiving my pack of goodies I’ve noticed a huge change in the way I eat.’

Following recipes from the app and drinking the brand’s smoothies between meals has helped her to kill cravings she struggled with for years.

‘I no longer eat after dinner and I have so much more energy than I ever have before. It has changed my life and I’ve only been using it for a few short weeks so far. Thank you so much,’ she said.
